Google Pixel Updates Go Missing: What’s Really Going On?
Google Pixel users, especially those with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series, have been left scratching their heads lately. Where are the updates? For years, Google has consistently delivered monthly updates for its Pixel devices, but recent months have seen a noticeable shift. Since July 2025, updates have become sporadic, with some months completely skipped. This has sparked concern among users who rely on these updates for security patches, bug fixes, and new features.
But here's where it gets controversial: While Google’s official documentation doesn’t explicitly guarantee monthly updates, the company’s consistent track record had led users to expect them. Now, the sudden change has left many wondering: is this a temporary hiccup, or a permanent shift to a less frequent update schedule?
Google’s response to inquiries has been vague, stating only that Pixel devices will remain “security compliant” throughout their support period. While reassuring, this statement doesn’t address the frequency of updates, leaving users in the dark about what to expect.
And this is the part most people miss: The update patterns suggest a potential move towards a quarterly update model for the Pixel 6 and 7 series, with updates arriving in June, September, December, and March. This is a significant change from the monthly cadence users have grown accustomed to.
To help you stay informed, we’ve compiled a detailed timeline of updates for the Pixel 6, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel 7a. This timeline tracks the release dates of updates and highlights any missed months.
