In the realm of NFL coaching, Liam Coen's performance as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025 stood out remarkably. Naturally, this success prompted Shad Khan, the owner of the Jaguars, to reflect on the promise Coen made when he was appointed to lead the team.
Tony Khan, the Jaguars' chief football strategy officer and Shad's son, shared insights about Coen during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show. He emphasized how Coen met expectations as a head coach, particularly in terms of his commitment to developing quarterback Trevor Lawrence. "Liam Coen has come in and genuinely transformed the culture here. His contributions have been invaluable for the team. If I had to highlight one aspect, it would be the significant improvement across the board, as team success is paramount," Tony remarked.
Moreover, he pointed out Coen’s specific pledge to elevate Lawrence’s performance. "If I were to cite one player who exemplifies this transformation, it would undoubtedly be Trevor Lawrence. Coen promised to bring out the best in him, and he has fulfilled that promise. Just look at Trevor being nominated for both Comeback Player of the Year and MVP; it's truly remarkable."
In 2025, Lawrence experienced a career-defining season, steering the Jaguars through an eight-game winning streak to conclude the year, showcasing a level of dominance he had never displayed before. Consequently, the future appears brighter than ever for both him and the franchise as a whole.
Tony Khan elaborated further, stating, "It's not just about the 53 players on the roster; it involves countless dedicated individuals within the organization collaborating weekly in the NFL. Having a leader like Liam Coen at the helm has created a positive environment for everyone involved with the Jaguars. If I had to highlight one individual, it would certainly be Liam.
